Kyushu Ramen Kio Dotonbori: What to Know Before You Go (Osaka)

Kyushu Ramen Kio Dotonbori

What to expect

This small counter-style shop is known for its tonkotsu broth, simmered low and slow for a rich, deep flavor. The standout, though, is their tomato cheese ramen — a creamy, tangy twist on the classic bowl that’s become a bit of a signature dish. Spicy ramen is also on the menu, with adjustable heat levels if you like a kick, and sides like gyoza, karaage, and soft-boiled eggs round out the meal.

We kept it classic and ordered the tonkotsu shoyu ramen, and it didn’t disappoint — rich, umami-packed broth and firm, springy noodles that left us full and satisfied.

Good to know

  • Hours: Open late — some nights until 2am, great for a post-Dotonbori-stroll bowl.
  • Expect a line. It’s popular, especially in the evenings. Waits of 30–45 minutes aren’t unusual, so go earlier or later to dodge the rush.
  • Payment: LINE Pay and PayPay are accepted, but it’s smart to carry some cash just in case.
  • Seating is limited — it’s a cozy, quick-turnover kind of spot, not a place to linger.
  • There’s a second location in Namba if the Dotonbori queue looks brutal.

The takeaway

A late-night option in the middle of Osaka’s busiest district.
